West Ham United midfielder Robert Snodgrass has stated he is ready to play an important role for the club in 2020-21 after returning from injury.
The Scottish playmaker is an under-rated member of the Hammers squad and has been on the sidelines since March.
However, Snodgrass was selected in West Ham’s changed starting XI for the 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night.
The veteran midfielder put in a solid showing alongside Josh Cullen in the Hammers midfield and provided an asset for Sebastien Haller to score.
Speaking after the game, Snodgrass said he was enthused about the season and wanted to be a regular fixture in David Moyes’ West Ham side.
“Yeah it has been a hard few months, very disappointing,” he said, according to the London Evening Standard.
“That was the first game in a while, I could have played 90 – no problem – I’ve done a lot of conditioning work and have been pushing myself to the max to get back and push the lads that are playing and push myself because I believe I’ve still got so much more to give.
“It was a great result, we could have had six or seven against a good side, good manager. The lads have got to take confidence from some good performances and it was one we needed.”
Given there were plenty of poor performances in the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle last weekend, Moyes will be tempted to rotate his side for West Ham’s Premier League clash against Arsenal on Saturday.
Snodgrass has won the Hammers fans over with his commitment to the cause, work-rate and ability from dead-ball situations, after a slow start to life in East London.
West Ham have been overly reliant on Declan Rice and Mark Noble in the heart of the midfield in recent times, so it is good to see Cullen and Snodgrass pushing for inclusion and adding competition for places.
