Guardian: West Ham consider defensive trio after Caleta-Car rejection

West Ham United are assessing their options after Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car rejected a move to the London Stadium, with The Guardian naming three potential alternatives for the Irons.

The report states that a move for the 24-year-old Croatian enforcer has been unsuccessful as the defender wants to stay in southern France to play Champions League football.

It adds that West Ham are now looking at quick-fire deals for either Watford veteran Craig Dawson, Arsenal’s versatile defender Calum Chambers or Swansea’s Joe Rodon.

The Hammers are not blessed with lots of options at centre-half and David Moyes has expressed his desire for the club to reinforce in this area before the transfer window closes on Monday night.

Chambers has been linked previously and could be a good addition for West Ham, but it remains to be seen whether a deal, either loan or permanent, can be concluded in time.

Dawson has plenty of Premier League experience and a loan deal has been touted, in what will not be the most inspiring of transfer links but one that could work for the Hammers.

Finally, Swansea and Wales defender Rodon is being touted as a star of the future, with the 22-year-old possibly representing a sound investment by West Ham.

With Issa Diop, Fabian Balbuena and Angelo Ogbonna the only recognised senior centre-halves at the club, the Hammers fans will be livid if a new face or two does not arrive in East London before the window closes.
