West Ham United boss David Moyes has declared he was happy with the performance of his players, despite them losing 3-2 to Liverpool on Monday night.
The Hammers faced one of their biggest challenges of the season at Anfield, but at times took the game to their illustrious opponents, and at one stage of the contest looked like pulling off one of the most surprising results of the season when they led 2-1.
West Ham actually fell behind in the game early in the opening period, but were soon level when Issa Diop equalised from a corner, before substitute Pablo Fornals fired the Londoners into an unlikely lead.
The Hammers could not hold on though, and goals from Mo Salah and Sadio Mane eventually saw Liverpool to another three points, and break the hearts of the London Stadium outfit.
Despite the defeat West Ham boss Moyes was happy with his side, and believes that there were positives to take from the encounter.
“I have to praise the players for their effort and their commitment and even at the end, we looked like we were going to get a third right at the end. We have to take something positive from it, but taking no points means there is no real positive.” The Hammers official website quotes him as saying.
“I have to say the players are getting better and doing a lot of good things, but we have to cut out the individual errors because they are costing us.
“I was pleased in a lot of aspects. I thought we did a really good job. I thought it was a game you come into and nobody has enjoyed coming here at the moment because of how well they’re playing, but I thought, for long periods of the game, we did a decent job.”
West Ham have had it tough in terms of their fixtures in recent times, but with a clash against Southampton on Saturday afternoon, they will be hoping to back up this performance and comes away from it with three points.
