West Ham United currently sit 17th in the Premier League with six games remaining. The Hammers hold a comfortable 14-point cushion over Ipswich Town in the relegation zone, but top-flight status is not mathematically secure yet.
To avoid any late-season drama, the Irons need full commitment from the squad as they look to finish a disappointing campaign on a stronger note. Graham Potter’s side is winless in their last five league outings, a run of form that has left fans frustrated.
However, West Ham have a golden opportunity to end that horrendous run tomorrow against already-relegated Southampton. The Hammers know it is a chance to claim three much-needed points and build momentum.
Ahead of the match, manager Graham Potter provided an update on winger Crysencio Summerville. The 23-year-old has been out of action since January with a hamstring injury sustained during the 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa. The Dutchman remains unavailable.
“He is still training with the physios, and it will be a few more weeks yet,” said Potter. “It has been a fairly complicated one for him, so we just have to take our time.”
The injury has stalled his West Ham career. Initially expected to miss only a few weeks, Summerville has missed over ten games, adding to the frustration surrounding the club’s struggles.
West Ham should let Summerville reset and give it another go next season – View
The season is almost over, and Summerville, is still out. The wise move would be to let him rehabilitate and come back stronger next term.
His signing has been disappointing, but it was not his fault, and he will benefit from a reset. Hopefully, he can shake off the problems and come back fitter.
The former Leeds United star, described by former boss Daniel Farke as a baller, still has bags of potential to show at the London Stadium. He only needs a bit of luck to stay fit.
