Nuno Espirito Santo bags PL Manager of the Month nomination

Nuno Espirito Santo has been nominated for the April 2026 Barclays Manager of the Month award after guiding West Ham United to within touching distance of Premier League safety during a crucial run of fixtures.

The Portuguese head coach is one of seven nominees, alongside Daniel Farke, Pep Guardiola, Fabian Hurzeler, Andoni Iraola, Vitor Pereira, and Arne Slot.

Fans have until 12:00 BST on Monday to cast their vote on the Premier League’s official website, with the winner set to be announced the following week.

Nuno’s nomination comes on the back of a three-game unbeaten run in April—two wins and a draw—that has revitalised West Ham’s survival hopes.

The Hammers beat Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton and held Crystal Palace to a goalless draw, finishing the month with a plus-five goal difference and moving two points clear of 18th-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Perhaps most significantly, the clean sheets against Wolves and Palace were West Ham’s first successive shutouts in over a year, highlighting the defensive solidity Nuno has instilled in a squad that had been drifting towards the drop. At one stage, West Ham were seven points from safety, but Nuno has injected belief into the side.

The win over Wolves and the late winner against Everton are seen as pivotal moments in shifting the squad’s mentality at a critical stage of the season.

This nomination marks a significant personal milestone for Nuno, who has now earned recognition at four different Premier League clubs.

He previously won the award seven times during spells at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, and Tottenham Hotspur, and this nod with the Hammers underlines his continued ability to deliver results under pressure.

The Portuguese is aiming to become the first West Ham manager to win this award since Sam Allardyce in 2014.

However, the competition is fierce. Guardiola’s Manchester City won all three of their league games in April, including a crucial victory over Arsenal to briefly go top, while Slot guided Liverpool to three straight wins to reignite their Champions League push. Iraola, meanwhile, extended Bournemouth’s unbeaten league run to 14 games ahead of his summer departure.

Whether Nuno ultimately claims the award or not, his efforts in April have given West Ham fans real cause for optimism ahead of the final stretch of the 2025-26 campaign.
