West Ham United are ready to make Genoa central defender Armando Izzo their next signing this summer, according to Italian source Tutto Mercato Web.
The Hammers are busy trying to bolster the squad that Manuel Pellegrini has inherited from David Moyes, with a handful of new faces already arrived at the club.
West Ham have identified the centre of the team’s defence as an area that needs improvement, with Issa Diop already joining – but James Collins has left following his contract expiring.
Izzo is an impressive central defender with plenty of Serie A experience and the Italian could well be an excellent option for the Premier League side.
However, the 26-year-old has something of a chequered past after being banned from football for match fixing in the past.
The reported West Ham target was initially hit with an 18-month suspension from the Italian authorities but was on the sidelines for just six months after an appeal.
The Hammers fans will be keen to see more new faces at the club soon after deals for Diop, Ryan Fredericks and Lukasz Fabianski have all arrived at the London Stadium.
West Ham have Winston Reid, Declan Rice and Angelo Ogbonna as other options at centre-half.
