West Ham United look set to miss out on long-term transfer target Leander Dendoncker, with the midfielder set to sign for Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to Belgian newspaper HLN.

The Hammers have tried to sign the Belgium international over the last 12 months, with it widely publicised that the club made a significant offer for him in the January transfer window.

However, Dendoncker’s switch to West Ham did not materialise and the player remained at Anderlecht.

The latest report from Europe states that the Belgian is on his way to England after an offer from Wolves was accepted and the player is looking increasingly likely to move to the newly promoted side.

For West Ham, after an impressive transfer window, the news will be disappointing but not as much of a blow as if Manuel Pellegrini’s squad had not been suitably improved.

Despite the business at the London Stadium, the Hammers still could have used someone of Dendoncker’s ability at the club – but it looks as though the Irons supporters will have to chalk the Belgian up as one of those that got away.
