West Ham United have had an offer of £12 million for Joao Mario rejected by Inter Milan, according to FC Inter News.
The Portugal international joined the Hammers on loan from the Serie A giants in the January transfer window and has had a largely positive impact during his time in England so far.
West Ham will be looking to strengthen in the summer and talk of a permanent deal for Mario will be music to the fans’ ears as he would add quality and experience to the first-team squad.
However, given that Inter splashed out an exuberant fee to land the Portuguese midfielder after his nation won Euro 2016 in France, the Hammers will surely have to pay more than £12 million to convince them to sell him.
Mario’s latest comments in the press will be encouraging for West Ham, with the playmaker stating that Inter are ‘part of his past’ and that he is committed to becoming a success in the Premier League.
That said, for the Irons faithful to enjoy the Portuguese’s considerable skills beyond the end of this season, the club’s owners will need to negotiate a deal – something most of the supporters will not be confident they can do.
