West Ham United have confirmed the signing of Swiss striker Albian Ajeti on their official website, with the attacker’s addition completing an excellent transfer window for the club.

The Hammers have had a summer of upheaval, with deadwood shifted on from Manuel Pellegrini’s squad and a number of shrewd acquisitions.

Bolstering the club’s striking options was clearly a priority and in club-record signing Sebastien Haller, West Ham have landed a decorated number nine capable of scoring plenty of goals in 2019-20.

After Marko Arnautovic, Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez were all offloaded, leaving Javier Hernandez as the only other centre forward available, Ajeti’s capture completes Pellegrini’s group.

The Swiss international offers something different from Haller, with his mobility, predatory eye for goal and movement key traits of the new West Ham striker.

While Hernandez will remain an option also, the Hammers now have a couple of different types of striker available to lead the line.

West Ham fans will be keen to see if the 22-year-old features in this weekend’s Premier League opener against Manchester City.

Ajeti has spoken out about his delight at moving to the Hammers and stated he wants to be a success with the club.

“I’m very excited to be here,” the 22-year-old told whufc.com.

“It’s a pleasure to be here at this big club. It’s a big day for me and my family.

“I could really feel West Ham’s interest and that was for me the most important thing. I didn’t have to think twice to sign for such a big, traditional club in the Premier League. I’ve come from a big, traditional club in Switzerland, and now moved to a bigger club.

“The ambition of this team means a lot to me, and it makes me so proud to play for such a big club. I know this team will push me to the limit, and I want to go to the limit for this club.”

Here’s hoping that 2019-20 will be a successful campaign for West Ham, with Ajeti able to contribute for Pellegrini’s side.
