Ex-Newcastle United owners eyeing a deal to buy West Ham

Former Newcastle United co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi are exploring a sensational move to buy West Ham United.

The high-profile husband-and-wife duo, who spearheaded Newcastle’s transformation before departing St James’ Park, have now set their sights on a new investment project in a bid to replicate their previous success.

Speaking at a Saudi-backed conference in Rome, Staveley refused to rule out a lucrative move for the East London club amid intense market speculation.

When asked about her group’s interest in West Ham, the Yorkshire-born financier smiled and hinted that a deal was highly possible. Her comments coincide with local reports that she recently visited the London Stadium, where she was reportedly given a comprehensive tour to assess the club’s infrastructure.

The potential takeover comes at a pivotal moment for West Ham. After a turbulent season that ended in painful relegation to the Championship, the club is undergoing a major administrative overhaul under manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Additionally, long-standing co-owner David Sullivan recently stepped down from his executive duties, creating a power vacuum and leaving the club’s ownership structure open to new investment.

Staveley and Ghodoussi are actively raising capital through their firm, PCP Capital Partners, targeting a global sports and media fund worth around $1 billion.

Crucially, they have reunited with the billionaire Reuben family, led by Jamie Reuben, who previously partnered with them during the transformative 2021 Newcastle takeover alongside Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

Staveley has outlined her operational philosophy, explaining that she and her husband are drawn to acquiring historic, underperforming brands with significant untapped commercial growth potential.
