West Ham midfielder Divine Mukasa has been promoted to the England Under-21 squad ahead of their remaining 2027 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifiers, marking a significant milestone in the young midfielder’s rapid career progression.
The talented prospect is currently on loan at West Ham United from Manchester City, where he was once dubbed ‘unbelievable’ by Pep Guardiola.
He receives his call-up to the Under-21s after a series of late squad adjustments and injury withdrawals, including Chelsea’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Norwich City’s Kellen Fisher and Ben Chrisene.
His impressive rise to the elite youth tier is a reward for consistently high-level performances at both club and international level, most recently another impressive display for England Under-20s, setting up Shea Lacey’s crucial goal in a commanding 3-1 win over Italy.
Having already earned over 30 youth caps for England from Under-16 to Under-20 level, the teenager is well-versed in the demands of the national team setup.
At club level, the 19-year-old has impressed since joining West Ham on loan, establishing himself as a first-team regular by displaying the technical poise, close control, and eye for a pass that first brought him to prominence at Manchester City’s academy.
Mukasa and the England Under-21s are set to host Slovakia at Stoke City’s bet365 Stadium on Friday before travelling to Cork to face the Republic of Ireland next Tuesday.
For Mukasa, these fixtures represent a fantastic opportunity to translate his prolific youth form onto the biggest stage.
He will be eager to impress and stake a permanent claim in the squad as the Young Lions push towards the 2027 European Championship finals.
