Borussia Dortmund baulk at West Ham’s asking price for Mavropanos

Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing West Ham United centre-half Konstantinos Mavropanos this summer (h/t Bild). He is also open to the idea of leaving East London.

BVB want a replacement for Niklas Sule, who is poised to leave on a free transfer, and are keen on the West Ham ace. However, they are baulking at the €30 million asking price.

Mavropanos has been excellent for the Hammers this season, bagging three goals in 26 Premier League appearances so far.

He has helped West Ham keep five clean sheets while winning 66 percent of his aerial and 66% of his ground duels.

Mavropanos struggled with Max Kilman alongside him in the centre of defence. However, the addition of Axel Disasi has proven to be a game-changer.

Mavropanos and Disasi have formed a strong defensive pairing. They will be key to West Ham’s bid to avoid relegation to the second division.

Mavropanos has been immaculate this term for West Ham, delivering top-class defensive performances, and the club must treat any approach for Mavropanos as a non-starter.

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo has finally found balance at the back, building a defence that looks organised, aggressive and, crucially, reliable under pressure.

That kind of cohesion is fragile. It takes months to build and seconds to break. Cashing in now would be a step backwards at the worst possible moment.

Mavropanos is central to that structure.

His understanding with Disasi is already translating into consistency, and that familiarity is exactly what will be needed in a relegation fight or a rebuild scenario.

Replace him, and you reset the entire defensive rhythm.

For a club flirting with instability, continuity is currency. Letting Mavropanos go would not just weaken the defence. It will undo the progress Nuno has worked hard to establish.

West Ham’s priority should be bolstering the rearguard, not letting a key defender leave.
