West Ham United are awaiting an update on the injury of Michail Antonio after the English was forced off during their 2-0 victory against Newport County in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday as reported by The Standard.
The injury-prone Antonio was forced to leave the pitch after just eight minutes and is now expected to spend time on the sidelines.
The Sun state that the West Ham wideman could be out for six weeks.
West Ham managed to record a comfortable win against their opponents from Wales. One of the major positives from the game saw Jack Wilshere score his first goal for the Hammers.
The 27-year-old is one of the most destructive midfielders when on song but has sadly seen his career progress curtailed by recurring injuries. He will be hoping that he can now kick-start his career.
Pablo Fornals scored the other goal for the Hammers. The Spaniard joined the club this summer and is highly-rated. He is another player who is expected to have a big impact this season and Hammers fans can hope that this will be the first of many goals from him.
There is no doubt that the absence of Antonio will be a huge blow to the Hammers as well as to the player himself.
The 29-year-old is one of Manuel Pellegrini’s most intelligent and crafty players and who is capable of scoring and creating goals against any side in the top-flight. His expertise will no doubt be a blow to Pellegrini.
The West Ham star would also have been hoping to push for inclusion towards England’s Euro 2020 campaign and there is no doubt that the latest injury will be a blow towards his ambitions.
