Thursday night was really good fun, a good, reasonably competitive kickabout in the sun and a win for the Hammers.  It was also good to see some of the youngsters and size them up.  These are my thoughts following the game…

1.We play on the floor….

I'm not sure how the youngsters normally play, but there was no route one on show here.  The ball was either played wide to Jarvis or Amaltifano or through the middle via Poyet and Zarate.  It will be interesting if this is the early seeds of Slaven's philosophy coming through or just how they roll.  But oh, the irony of some fellow fans shouting 'just get in the box' around me….some people really have short memories…

2. Jarvis could have a future

I don't why but I have a soft spot for Matt Jarvis.  Maybe it's because he's proof that small people can play football too.  Either way, I like his enthusiasm and style and he was certainly the focal point of our creativity.  he may be off to pastures new, but if not I'm more than happy to see him on the team sheet and hope that this is 'his' season.

3.  Reece Oxford is a little bit useful

I was keeping an eye on this wonderkid and was suitably impressed.  For a 16 year old he already has a man's build and is composed and confident.  There certainly was something of the young Rio Ferdinand about him and it will certainly be interesting to watch him develop.

4.  Josh Cullen is also interesting..

I also liked the look of this lad, reminded me a bit of Scott Parker in the way he held the middle but would also push forward when required.  Another one to keep an eye on.  Lewis Page also did well at left back, whilst Diego Poyet looked the part in cameos but was anonymous for quite a bit of the game as well.

5.  Sakho's fitness is key

It was great to see Diafra Sakho back in our colours and his natural finishing, even when a little rusty, was there for all to see.  A class act and if he can stay fit he will be a key for our success next season.

And a warm welcome to Super Slav (although noteable that his name was not sung, I'd hope we offer him more support sooner rather than later)

I liked the look of Cullen when he came on, he looked useful. Got his head down and tried the insicive pass. Jarvis and zarate stood out for me, the ability to go at and go past players was something I hadn’t been accustomed to under fat Sam and they both put in the dog work. Sakho, as usual was deadly … We must keep him. Oxford did ok but didn’t really do anything special, people are just over inflating the situation due to his age but I do hope the boy draws more Rio comparrisons in the future as it will mean we do have a star ( and it been a while since we’ve bled one through) . Feels like it could be a good season.
